Luke Shaw Out For United

Lionel MessiSergio Aguero and Mario Gotze are among the high-profile stars set to be watching their teams on the Champions League sidelines this Tuesday and Wednesday.

To get you up to speed on the team news ahead of the opening fixtures, Goal takes a match-by-match look at the injuries and suspensions currently troubling the competition's 32 clubs.


ARSENAL VERSUS BAYERN MUNICH

ARSENAL VERSUS BAYERN

Jack Wilshere (ankle), Danny Welbeck and Tomas Rosicky (both knee) won't be seen in an Arsenal shirt again until 2016 due to their injuries.

Arsene Wenger will have striker Olivier Giroud available following his one-game suspension for a red card in their opening game of the Champions League group stage.

Bayern Munich will be without Medhi Benatia (hamstring), Holder Badstuber (slow recovery from foo injury), Sebastian Rode (tendons), Mario Gotze (adductor) and Franck Ribery (ankle) for the trip to the Emirates Stadium.

Arjen Robben has not been named in Pep Guardiola's squad but Kingsley Coman has been included.

BATE VERSUS BARCELONA

Lionel Messi (knee) remains the most high-profile missing person for Barcelona as he continues his fight back to fitness.

Rafinha (knee) will also definitely be watching from the sidelines, while Andres Iniesta is a major doubt having not played for the European champions since matchday two of European football this campaign.

BATE'S main injury concern is Vitali Rodionov, whose knee injury is expected to keep him out of action until November.

BAYERN LEVERKUSEN VERSUS ROMA

Bayer Leverkusen remain without Charles Aranguiz after he tore his Achilles tendon in August while Tin Jedvaj (hamstring), Seung-Woo Ryo (ankle) and Roberto Hilbert (knee) will miss out.

Edin Dzeko could return to Roma's line-up having been an unused substitute against Empoli this weekend. Attacking team-mate Francesco Totti hasn't played since picking up a thigh injury versus Carpi last month.

DYNAMO ZAGREB VERSUS OLYMPIACOS

DYNAMO ZAGREB VERSUS OLYMPIACOS

Arijan Ademi has been suspended pending the outcome of allegations that he tested positive for doping in a test after Dinamo Zagreb's clash with Arsenal last month. Gordon Schildenfeld (muscular injury) andLeonard Sigali (knee) are also expected to be absent from the matchday three clash.

Doubts for Olympiacos include Manuel da Costa and Felipe Pardo (both calf) while Esteban Cambiassopicked up a knock in training on Sunday; Alejandro Dominguez has recovered from a quadriceps strain and could feature.

Definite absentees for the Greek visitors are Andres Bouchalakis (quadriceps) and Giannis Maniatis(knee).


DYNAMO KYIV v CHELSEA

Chelsea No.1 Thibaut Courtois remains sidelined until December with a knee injury, while defenderBranislav Ivanovic isn't expected to feature again for Jose Mourinho's men until next month with a hamstring problem.

Forward Lukasz Teodorczyk is expected to return to competitive action for Dynamo Kyiv having made his first appearance since May in club friendly during the recent international break.


PORTO v MACCABI TEL AVIV

Andre Silva (ankle) is not expected to return until the tail end of 2015 for Porto, while Maicon (thigh) could be back in November, ruling both out of Tuesday's Group G clash with Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Meanwhile, the Israeli side will be without Nosakhare Igiebor (knee), Dejan Radonjic (back), Eli Dasa(hamstring) and Yuval Shpungin (sinus surgery).


VALENCIA v GENT

Valencia will need to find players to cover Aymen Abdennour (hamstring), Diego Alves (knee), Ryan(knee) and Enzo Perez (calf) in Tuesday's clash with Gent.

The Belgian visitors remain without Brecht Dejaegere due to his two-game suspension, but Thomas Foketis back available having sat out matchday two. Defender Erik Johansson (knee) is fit again after shaking off an injury sustained in September.


ZENIT v LYON

Zenit have the luxury of a largely fit squad ahead of their clash with Lyon, with only Igor Smolnikov set to miss out, having suffered an adductor injury earlier this month. 

Lyon's injury list is significantly longer, however, with Milan Bisevac (hamstring), Aldo Kalulu (ankle), Kone(heel), Henri BedimoClement Grenier (both thigh), Nabil Fekir and Gueida Fofana
 (both knee) all sidelined. 

ATLETICO MADRID v ASTANA

Diego Simeone will have to replace the injured Koke (hamstring) as he picks his team to face Astana, with the Spanish midfielder having missed Atletico's last four matches, though he has a fully fit squad otherwise. 

Astana, meanwhile, will be without Patrick Twumasi, who will miss the game through suspension, having been hit with a four-game ban following his sending off in the third qualifying round second leg tie with HJK. 


CSKA MOSCOW v MANCHESTER UNITED

CSKA have no injury concerns heading into the clash with Louis van Gaal's men, but United will definitely be without Luke Shaw (broken ankle) and Paddy McNair (liver), while Ashley Young (calf) is a doubt. 

GALATASARAY v BENFICA

Galatasaray striker Burak Yilmaz returned from a hamstring injury on Saturday and is fit to face Benfica, with Hamit Altintop the only player ruled out as he works his way back to full fitness from a summer knee operation.

Benfica will be without defender Nelson Semedo, who was another casualty of the international window when he fractured his knee on his Portugal debut against Serbia earlier this month. Winger Eduardo Salvioremains a long-term absentee following knee surgery in September.


JUVENTUS v BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH

Juventus are set to be without Stephan Lichtsteiner, who has undergone heart surgery.

Gladbach, meanwhile, will be without Patrick Herrmann (cruciate ligament), Nico Shulz (knee ligament) and captain Martin Stranzl (eye). 



MALMO v SHAKHTAR DONETSK

Messi & Aguero out: Champions League injuries & suspensions

Malmo will be without Yoshimar Yotun against the Ukrainian giants due to suspension, with the 25-year-old having been sent off on matchday one. 

Shakhtar, meanwhile, have no injury concerns and will be boosted by the return of Taras Stepanenko from a ban of his own.


MANCHESTER CITY v SEVILLA

Manchester City will have to find replacements for several key stars against Sevilla, with star men David Silva (ankle) and Sergio Aguero (hamstring) definitely set to miss out. Aleksandar Kolarov (thigh),Fabian Delph (hamstring) and Gael Clichy (ankle) will also be sidelined. 

Sevilla, meanwhile, will be without Gael Kakuta and Sergio Escudero (both muscle), while Daniel Carrico(hamstring) is still sidelined. Fernando Llorente (adductor) and Luismi (metatarsal) are both doubtful.


PSG v REAL MADRID

Both European giants have serious injury concerns ahead of their heavyweight Champions League clash, with goalkeeper Kevin Trapp (thigh) and defender David Luiz (knee) both set to miss out for PSG. 

Real, meanwhile, will definitely be without Karim Benzema (hamstring), Dani Carvajal (ankle), Sergio Ramos (shoulder), Danilo (foot), James Rodriguez (thigh) and Pepe (leg), while Luka Modric (thigh) is a doubt. 


WOLFSBURG v PSV

Messi & Aguero out: Champions League injuries & suspensions

Wolfsburg will have to find a way to replace Robin Knoche (ankle) against PSV, but Vierinha could feature after returning from a thigh injury.

PSV, meanwhile, will definitely be without Jetro Willems and Florian Jozefzoon, with both sidelined with ligament injuries. Santiago Arias will also miss out, as he serves a one-match ban.

All three midfielders have been bit-part players this season with Arsene Wenger believed to be having concerns over their fitness and consistency to perform at a high level.  Rosicky, who turnt 35 last month, is expected to be sidelined until after Christmas following knee surgery and has failed to play a single minute of first-team football.  The Czech was set to leave the Gunners last summer but Arsenal invoked a clause in his previous contract to keep him at the Emirates for a further 12 months.  By leaving Arsenal, this will allow Rosicky to finish his career with his first club Sparta Prague - which he is open to.  The same can be said for Flamini as there are those who believe his best days are behind him too, with the poor performance in the Capital One Cup exit...

Euros Disappointments a lesson for Martial, says Deschamps

  France coach Didier Deschamps believes Anthony Martial is a revitalised player after looking "exhausted" at Euro 2016.
