Shaw targets Euro 2016 after ‘unbelievable’ progress

Luke Shaw - Left-back could return in time for Euro 2016

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal says Luke Shaw could recover from a double leg fracture in time for England’s Euro 2016 campaign.
Left-back Shaw suffered the injury in a tackle by Hector Moreno in United’s Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven in September, and had to remain in Holland for surgery.
It was expected the 20-year-old would not return in time to get back up to speed for the European Championships, but Van Gaal has revealed there is now a chance.
“Luke is already here, he is already walking with a brace, it is unbelievable,” he said.
“He is every day here, he has started his rehabilitation already but he has a long way to go. Now his progress is going quickly but at the end we know it will level off and at that point it is difficult to maintain your mentality.
“But for now he is fantastic although we cannot say whether he will be fit for England next summer. Like Roy Hodgson says, maybe it is 50-50 because it is possible, but it is dependable on the rehabilitation and you can not say it now that he is going.
“Maybe there will be complications later, you never know. That happens a lot so we have to wait and see.”
After a difficult first season at Old Trafford, Shaw had started this campaign in fine form and looked to have made the left-back position for club and country his own.

Neymar powers injury-hit Barcelona to clean sheet win at BATE

Three quick thoughts as an injury-hit Barcelona ease to a 2-0 win at BATE Borisov in Tuesday night's Champions League Group E matchday three clash. 1. Neymar + Rakitic = two goals and three points Two beautiful goals from Ivan Rakitic, and two lovely assists from Neymar, were enough to bring Barcelona a welcomed 2-0 win, and keep last year's Champions League winners in firm control of Group E. Barca had lots of the ball in the first half, but made few clear chances, and the game was still scoreless at the break. BATE's fans celebrated the half-time whistle with the apparent idea that they could capitalise on the Catalans' recent dodgy away form and get something from the game. But two superb pieces of play from Rakitic and Neymar early in the second half changed all that. The opener saw Neymar take an early pass from Sergio Busquets and run 40 yards inside the BATE half, drawing the defence before he timed his pass perfectly to give Rakitic space to stri
