No player has more goals as a substitute than Olivier Giroud, but should he keep being used off the bench or does his strike rate - a goal every 88 minutes - deserve a start?
Olivier Giroud notched his third goal off the bench this season, making him the joint-most prolific substitute in the Premier League this term - but could it be a poisoned chalice for the Frenchman?Giroud has been tussling for a starting role with Theo Walcott, with the England international once again picked to lead the line against Watford on Saturday evening.
But with Walcott failing to score - the number of times he was offside at Vicarage Road was three times higher than the number of shots he had! - Giroud was thrown into the action and once again netted.
The problem Giroud now faces, though, is avoiding being shoe-horned as a so-called "super sub"; the Frenchman has one goal in 253 minutes when starting, but three goals in 101 minutes off the bench.
With a strike rate of a goal every 33 minutes off the bench, could Arsene Wenger opt to continue using him in this capacity, or will he earn his shot at a starting role?
In fact, of players to have struck at least twice this season, Giroud has the best overal strike rate (averaging a goal every 88 minutes) and, despite frequent criticism, has out-scored some far more illustrious rivals...
