Platini follows Blatter in appeal against Fifa suspension

Uefa president Michel Platini has appealed the 90-day suspension imposed on him by Fifa amid the ongoing corruption investigation into world football's governing body.

Platini and Fifa president Sepp Blatter were handed the bans on Thursday , with the Swiss accused of making a "disloyal payment" to the former France captain in 2011. 

Blatter has also been alleged to have signed an "unfavourable" contract with the Caribbean Football Union in 2005, which market experts claim handed over World Cup television rights for a fraction of their market value.

Both men deny any wrongdoing and  Blatter appealed his suspension on Friday , and Omnisport understands that Platini - backed by Uefa - has lodged an appeal.

Platini denounced the allegations as "farcical" and had been in the running to replace Blatter at the head of world football's governing body, though his bid appears in doubt following the week's events as reports suggested the Executive Committee could postpone the elections scheduled for February 2016.

Fifa confirmed on Friday an extraordinary meeting would be held later this month where a possible postponement is likely to be discussed.

As well as the Fifa and Uefa leaders, presidential candidate Chung Mong-joon has been given a six-year ban, derailing his bid, while secretary general Jerome Valcke has also been suspended.

Ighalo expects Swaziland to present an intense challenge

Nigeria stirker Odion Ighalo has stated that the Super Eagles are battle ready to face Swaziland in Friday's 2018 World Cup qualifier in Lobamba. Sihlangu Semnikati   are currently ranked 135th in the world, while the Super Eagles occupy the 52nd position.
