Di Maria dramatically better against Real Madrid - Blanc

The Paris Saint-Germain coach lauded the summer signing and the rest of his players despite losing out to a Nacho strike at the Bernabeu
Laurent Blanc singled out Angel Di Maria for praise after Paris Saint-Germain pushed Real Madrid all the way in Tuesday's 1-0 Champions League defeat.

PSG were the better side prior to Nacho's 35th-minute goal and continued to threaten thereafter, but failed to force a deserved equaliser in the Group A clash.

Di Maria had the best two chances of the second half for PSG, forcing a one-on-one save from Keylor Navas just after half-time before hitting the crossbar with a free-kick late on.

Blanc lauded the Argentina midfielder – who signed from Manchester United for an estimated €63million at the start of the season – for upping his game against his former club.

"Just like the rest of the team, Angel dramatically raised his performance level compared to recent matches," the coach told reporters at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"That result shows how football can turn out sometimes. But I think in a game like that – even if we didn't get the points we came for – we have to see the positives.

"After the first leg [which was drawn 0-0 at Parc des Princes a fortnight ago], some people said that we are not able to compete with the tempo of Real, but we showed that we can endanger any team tonight.

"Compared to our last game against Madrid, our offensive movement was much better. Real Madrid didn't come close to walking all over us.

"We have to build on this; it bodes well for the future. I'm pretty satisfied on the balance of both games against Madrid."

PSG, who have a 10-point lead in Ligue 1 already, have a four point cushion in second spot in the group and look primed to join Madrid in the last 16.

Arsenal Boss Eyes Summer Clear-outs

The midfield trios' contracts are set to expire at the end of the season and it is understood the Gunners are planning for life without them, claim the  London Evening Standard . All three midfielders have been bit-part players this season with Arsene Wenger believed to be having concerns over their fitness and consistency to perform at a high level.  Rosicky, who turnt 35 last month, is expected to be sidelined until after Christmas following knee surgery and has failed to play a single minute of first-team football.  The Czech was set to leave the Gunners last summer but Arsenal invoked a clause in his previous contract to keep him at the Emirates for a further 12 months.  By leaving Arsenal, this will allow Rosicky to finish his career with his first club Sparta Prague - which he is open to.  The same can be said for Flamini as there are those who believe his best days are behind him too, with the poor performance in the Capital One Cup exit...

Mourinho Punishment Too Much - Pulis

Mourinho And Pulis West Bromwich Albion head coach Tony Pulis has questioned who will benefit from the £50,000 fine that has been handed to Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho. After his seven-minute outburst in the aftermath of his side's 3-1 defeat to Southampton, Mourinho has been fined the five-figure sum by the Football Association, as well as been given a suspended one-match stadium ban. However, Pulis has described the amount as "extraordinary", and called for greater transparency regarding where the money will be used. The 57-year-old told reporters: "I think we need to have a meeting to find out what is going on or isn't going on. A fine of £50,000 is an extraordinary amount of money. I have been fined a few times by the FA for stepping out of line, but my argument is where does that money go? "Does it go to charity? Does it go to the hundreds and hundreds of people who will jump on the back of the Eurostar? Where does that m...
